Upcoming 1040 MeF Production Shutdown Scheduled for November 30, 2024

The IRS has announced the annual shutdown of the 1040 Modernized e-File (MeF) Production system, scheduled to begin on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time. This temporary closure allows the IRS to prepare the system for the upcoming Tax Year 2024 filing season.

Key Points:

  • The shutdown only affects "Send Submissions" for 1040 returns (both Federal and State).

  • All other services—including "Get Acks" and state-specific services—will remain active, allowing users to continue these functions.

  • Business returns are not impacted by this production shutdown.

For updates, check the MeF Operational Status page. Thank you for your understanding as the IRS prepares for the next tax season!
